Program description
This is what a music career sounds like.
In this program, develop your expertise as a musician or music professional through an intensive studio experience exploring performance, technical skills and theoretical studies necessary to pursue classical music. Work with active artists and scholars as you pursue your professional and creative goals in a collaborative environment. 
This is a 50-course (150.0 credit hour) Combined Degrees program jointly offered by the Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Education. You begin your journey in the in the Faculty of Fine Arts where you progress toward completion of your Fine Arts degree requirements and prepare to meet the admission requirements for the Faculty of Education.
As a student teacher, you have 27 weeks of practical classroom experience in a broad range of schools from rural to urban and elementary to secondary with a focus in your teachable area. Which degree is right for me?
Both the Bachelor of Arts (Music) and Bachelor of Music combined with a Bachelor of Education are 5-year combined degrees with K-12 experience through the Faculty of Education. Choosing between the two programs is dependent on the amount of music courses you would like to have in your major.
The Bachelor of Arts (Music)/Bachelor of Education stream requires less music courses and provides more flexibility for you to gain a diversified set of qualifications in many different areas. With hands-on experiences in performance and training on your chosen instrument, as well as learning in music theory, history, literature and ear training, you develop applied skills in every facet of the discipline.
The Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education stream offers a more specialized approach that allows you to build expertise in the field and enables you to take the reins at any level of music education. The breadth of our program enables you to share your musical knowledge in various educational contexts and to be a fully-rounded musician.
Work-Integrated Learning
You have full access to co-operative education, international exchanges, independent and applied studies as well as volunteer opportunities. ULethbridge is the only university in Alberta to offer co-operative education to all majors, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
