Immerse yourself in our classical program and explore this performance-intensive learning experience as a singer, instrumentalist or composer.
As a music student you'll receive one-on-one instruction from highly skilled performer-teachers, attend guest artist masterclasses and have multiple performance opportunities throughout the year. Areas of concentration include brass, composition, guitar, percussion, piano, strings, voice and woodwinds.
You also have 24-hour access to individual practice studios and composition labs where you have the freedom to hone your skills.

What you need to know as a current student in this program
For the BMus (Music) program there are some must-take courses that provide a great foundation for your major, but you'll also have flexibility on choosing a number of courses for the path of specialization and creative study you wish to take. Refer to your Program Planning Guide in your calendar year for the courses you'll need to take and choose from within the Music lists, Music Studio lists, Music Ensemble Activity lists and as Music Electives.
- at least 40 courses (120.0 credit hours) with cumulative and graduation grade point averages of at least 2.00;
- a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 in all Music and Music Studio courses;
- at least 30 Music, Music Studio and/or Music Ensemble Activity courses (90.0 credit hours);
- 8 courses for Liberal Education Requirements.
Remember that program requirements vary depending on the calendar year, which is usually the year of admission (or readmission) to ULethbridge. Therefore, requirements may differ from year to year even within the same major.

What is a Program Planning Guide?
A Program Planning Guide (PPG) outlines the courses required to complete your program, along with a sequencing plan. You should keep your Program Planning Guide up to date and refer to it for course registration and general program planning. You can find and download Program Planning Guides below.
If you are interested in further specialization, research, graduate studies or simply want an academic challenge, you may add a concentration to your music studies. Concentrations are optional and comprised primarily of subsets of the Music electives. The completed concentration will appear on your official transcript.
There are four optional concentrations to choose from:
- History/Theory/Composition Concentration
- Music Education Concentration
- Performance - Instrumental Concentration
- Performance - Vocal Concentration
Notes: In some cases you may need to utilize one or both of the two courses from any Faculty or School to meet the minimum requirements of the optional concentration. Courses used to meet the concentration may not be counted again outside of the seven electives and/or two electives from any Faculty or School.
