Frequently Asked Questions for Potential MA Economics Students

Background knowledge of the following is strongly recommended:

  • microeconomic theory
  • macroeconomic theory
  • econometrics
  • mathematics
  • statistics

All applicants must satisfy the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements. Please see for information on meeting this requirement.

The minimum GPA is 3.0 (based on the uLethbridge 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level term courses. Because this is a competitive program, applicants are strongly encouraged to prepare a high-quality application that demonstrates meeting all admission requirements.

This is recommended because students are required to conduct research as part of their program. To see the faculty members’ research expertise available in the Department of Economics please visit Economics webpage.

The MA in Economics is a cohort-based model starting every September.

The Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Indigenous peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ community.
