Drone Operations:
Drone filming for commercial, documentary, educational purposes, and for student class productions must obtain approval from the appropriate department or Faculty lead and follow Transport Canada Guidelines.
ULSU clubs are required to obatin approval from the ULSU to ensure the activity is sanctioned and insurance is in order for any club realted activity involving the use of a drone.

Recreational Use
The new rules do not treat people who fly drones for fun or for business differently and you must follow the
Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC)
If you want to fly your drone outside the rules, you will need to apply for a Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC).
The Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) require unmanned air vehicle (UAV) operators to apply for SFOCs so Transport Canada can ensure operators use their UAV reliably and safely.
Each SFOC contains conditions for where and how to fly, such as:
- maximum altitudes
- minimum distances from people and property
- coordination requirements with air traffic services
