"A Little History on the Prairies features the Nanton series of photographs by Geoffrey James and works by Margaret Shelton, which showcase the prairie landscape, a part of who we are as Canadians. The exhibit also includes sketches by Group of Seven artist, A.Y. Jackson, done during his time in Pincher Creek."</p> <p>After studying these landscapes, participants take a step back in time and will make their own ink from the juice of berries.</p> <p>"Art meets chemistry in this activity, which is perfect for art enthusiasts of all ages," says Jeffrey. As a result, they found a great way to deal with all the requests &ndash; Job Fair.</p> <p><br> Now set to celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Faculty of Education Job Fair goes Jan. 20, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Atrium. A total of 35 to 40 school boards are expected, making the fair a valuable resource for both educational employers and students ready to hit the job market.</p> <p><br> "The bottom line is that our program is so well thought of and respected, and so well known in western Canada, the school boards think of us first. The word is out there that our grads are very competent," says Judy Lavorato, program specialist with the Faculty of Education's Student Program Services (SPS) department.</p> <p><br> Patricia Foster, also with SPS, says the U of L grad is a known commodity for employers. That is represented by statistics that say 97 per cent of Faculty of Education graduates find work in the field of education within one year of graduating.</p> <p><br> "They know the quality of students they are receiving," says Foster. "We give them twice as much in-class training as is required by Alberta Education and that's a huge advantage when they head out into the workforce."</p> <p><br> Prior to Job Fair, the phones would constantly be ringing as school boards enquired about the availability of grads. The idea to bring these boards on campus for a one-time recruiting and information session was born. A total of 18 boards made the trip in for the inaugural Job Fair and the U of L has accommodated up to 50 school boards in past sessions.</p> <p><br> "Some of the boards come not to necessarily recruit but to just let students know they are out there," says Lavorato.</p> <p><br> "Some boards would like our students to complete their final internship (PS III) in their jurisdiction and may offer incentives to stay after they have graduated. It's not uncommon for students to have a teaching position already lined up before they finish their program."</p> <p><br> The lineup of school boards attending this year's fair is as varied and diverse as the potential teachers they will be recruiting. Truly an international fair, representatives from boards as far away as Australia will be in attendance. Of course the majority of attending school boards reside in the Prairie provinces but there are a multitude of opportunities available to adventurous grads.<br> Job Fair 2010 is open to the public and Student Program Services is currently looking for volunteers to help with the event.</p> <p><br> For more information, call the Faculty of Education at 403-329-2254, visit the website at <a href="http://www.uleth.ca/edu/jobfair/" title="www.uleth.ca/edu/jobfair/" rel="nofollow">www.uleth.ca/edu/jobfair/</a> or e-mail <a href="mailto:edu.jobfair@uleth.ca" rel="nofollow">edu.jobfair@uleth.ca</a></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field-group-format group_related_topics field-group-div group-related-topics block-title-body speed-fast effect-none"><h2><span>Related Topics</span></h2><div class="field field-name-opencalais-facility-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Facility:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/facility/campus-december" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">campus December</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-organization-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Organization:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/organization/faculty-education" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Faculty of Education</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-person-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Person:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/person/judy-lavorato" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Judy Lavorato</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/person/patricia-foster" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Patricia Foster</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/person/job-fair" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Job Fair</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-phonenumber-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">PhoneNumber:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/phone-number/403-329-2254" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">403-329-2254</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-position-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Position:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/position/program-specialist" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">program specialist</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-url-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">URL:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/url/wwwulethcaedujobfair" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">www.uleth.ca/edu/jobfair</a></div></div></div></div><span property="rnews:name schema:name" content="Education鈥檚 Job Fair brings employers to campus" class="rdf-meta"></span> Wed, 02 Dec 2009 17:37:57 +0000 trevor.kenney 4810 at /unews Theatre of the extreme comes to campus /unews/article/theatre-extreme-comes-campus <div class="field field-name-field-op-author field-type-node-reference field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" rel="rnews:creator schema:creator"><div class="view view-openpublish-related-content view-id-openpublish_related_content view-display-id-block_1 view-dom-id-917fc134d33e954b46c7e503062887e6"> <div class="view-content"> <div class="views-row views-row-1 views-row-odd views-row-first views-row-last"> <div class="views-field views-field-title"> <span class="views-label views-label-title">by</span> <span class="field-content"><a href="/unews/profile/trevor-kenney">Trevor Kenney</a></span> </div> <div class="views-field views-field-created"> <span class="field-content">December 9, 2008</span> </div> </div> </div> </div></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even" property="rnews:articlebody schema:articleBody"> <p>If you like theatre or paintings that are extremely physical, ironic and wordless, this could be the show for you.<br> Body Fragments, by Germany's Theaterlabor, is a high voltage performance inspired by the works of Anglo-Irish painter Francis Bacon. Body Fragments appears in the <a href="http://www.uleth.ca/finearts" rel="nofollow">David Spinks Theatre</a>, Jan. 12-13, 8 p.m. nightly, as part of the Now Showing Live Arts series.<br> Commissioned by the 2005 Venice Biennale, Body Fragments has toured dance and theatre festivals in Germany, Serbia, Czech Republic and Poland, and was awarded a prize for Most Innovative Performance at the 2007 Novi Sad festival in Serbia.<br> To create the Body Fragments performance, Theaterlabor explored the work of the painter Francis Bacon, who was noted for his unsettling presentation of the human body. The primary motifs in his paintings &mdash; a critical attitude toward the institutional church and a preoccupation with homosexuality &mdash; are infused with irony. Dynamic snapshots of movement, posture and attitude inspire the actors to extreme feats of expression.<br> "In this production, Theaterlabor has created an aesthetic language that mimics the alienating effects of Bacon's paintings," says Lisa Doolittle, the curator of Now Showing Live Arts.<br> Theaterlabor is a 24-year-old ensemble-based performance creation company based in Bielefeld, Germany. Operating independently of Germany's state-mandated theatre system, Theaterlabor has built and maintains its own venue, creates and tours new work on an ongoing basis, and hosts an annual festival of interdisciplinary performance, Festival 360藲. This is the company's first tour in Canada and is organized by Calgary's <a href="http://www.oyr.org" rel="nofollow">One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre</a>.<br> "Body Fragments is an outstanding event for Lethbridge audiences and local visual and performing artists," says Doolittle. "The distinctively European flavour of both the company and performance is unusual, and it is not often that Canadian audiences are exposed to such physically-oriented, non-text based creation theatre."<br> In addition to the performances, the actor-creators of Theaterlabor will present a public talk about their work, Monday, Jan. 12, noon in the 免费福利资源在线看片 Recital Hall. They will also conduct an open workshop in W420 on Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 1:40 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.<br> Tickets for Body Fragments are $20 regular and $15 for students, and are available at the U of L Box Office, 403-329-2616. A complimentary shuttle bus transports patrons from the north parking lot to the theatre entrance.<br> In Lethbridge, Body Fragments is supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Post-Secondary program, the Dept. of Canadian Heritage, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Goethe-Institut Toronto, presenter of the latest arts &amp; ideas from Germany.
