I&rsquo;m trying to work on my post game to become a little bit more lethal, but right now my strength is to face the basket and either shoot the open shot or take the guy off the dribble.&rdquo;</p><p>He&rsquo;s quickly adapted to the Canadian lifestyle. He spent the holiday season with his girlfriend and her family, says he loves the snow and is thrilled to be immersed in a basketball community.</p><p>&ldquo;Back in Australia, the biggest crowd I would have played in front of was 150 to 200 people. So here, when you hit a three-pointer or get a dunk, the crowd goes nuts and it&rsquo;s a great feeling. It gives you that extra shot of adrenaline and keeps the team rolling. I love that.&rdquo;</p><p>The ability Hansen sees in Brine is unbridled.</p><p>&ldquo;I believe he has the potential to be an All-Canadian, he is that gifted,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo; He needs to improve defensively and develop a more consistent back to the basket game, but in my opinion he is the most athletic player in the league.&rdquo;</p><p>Maybe even more impressive is how Brine has fit into the Horns program, a testament not only to Brine and his upbringing but also to the culture of basketball in southern Alberta and of the U of L campus.</p><p>&ldquo;The people, the town, everything just seems so homey. I feel so comfortable here,&rdquo; says Brine. &ldquo;Straight away, Mike&rsquo;s been really good introducing me to everyone, my teammates are great &ndash; it just feels like a second home.&rdquo;</p><p>Hansen knows full well the value the community brings to the program.</p><p>&ldquo;I came here 23 years ago thinking I&rsquo;d be here for four years, get my degree and head home,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo; Then you discover you&rsquo;re not only welcomed to southern Alberta, we adopt you as one of our own. Brandon is a special kid, he comes from a great family and it&rsquo;s reflected in his character. I think that&rsquo;s what he&rsquo;s enjoyed the most of being here, he has a home away from home.&rdquo;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field-group-format group_related_topics field-group-div group-related-topics block-title-body speed-fast effect-none"><h2><span>Related Topics</span></h2><div class="field field-name-opencalais-company-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Company:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/company/canada-west" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Canada West</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-organization-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Organization:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/organization/pronghorns" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Pronghorns</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-person-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Person:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/person/derek-waldner" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Derek Waldner</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/person/brandon-brine" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Brandon Brine</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/person/mike-hansen" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Mike Hansen</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-sportsgame-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">SportsGame:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/sports-game/basketball" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">basketball</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/sports-game/rugby" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">rugby</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/sports-game/cricket" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">cricket</a></div></div></div></div><span property="rnews:name schema:name" content="Gamble pays off for both Brine and Horns" class="rdf-meta"></span> Thu, 09 Jan 2014 23:25:30 +0000 trevor.kenney 5927 at /unews Horns basketball lands local recruit for 2014-15 /unews/article/horns-basketball-lands-local-recruit-2014-15 <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even" property="rnews:articlebody schema:articleBody"> <p>Five days before the start of the 2013-14 Canada West season, the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge Pronghorns men&rsquo;s basketball team is already looking to the future, adding its first commitment for the 2014-15 season.</p><p>First-year Pronghorn bench boss Mike Hansen announced today the signing of local product Mike Pierzchala.</p><p>Pierzchala, a six-foot-two guard, is entering his final season of high school basketball with the Winston Churchill Bulldogs and looking to build off a stellar grade 11 campaign. rel="nofollow">Horns</a> announced they had landed prized recruit Logan Reiter for the 2011-2012 <a href="http://www.canadawest.org" rel="nofollow">Canada West</a> season. Reiter, an Iron Springs, Alta. native and Picture Butte High School product, is a key contributor to the <a href="http://www.lethbridgecollege.ca/student-experience/athletics-clubs/kodiak-teams/mens-basketball" rel="nofollow">Lethbridge College Kodiaks</a> program. He'll make the move across the river next fall.</p> <p>"When you look at the Horns and what we want to do in creating continued success here, we believe it's got to be organically grown from our own community," says Horns head coach Dave Adams. "People in southern Alberta want to support the Kodiaks and the Horns, and we need to give them some reasons to do that."</p> <p>The Kodiaks have seen a lot of success this season, posting a 9-1 record and earning recognition as one of the top college programs in the country. Reiter, the Kodiaks rookie of the year last season, is averaging 16.5 points, 2.6 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. The six-foot-one inch guard says he'd always envisioned wearing the blue and gold of the Pronghorns.</p> <p>"I knew all along that this is where I wanted to be, and it's good to get this decision out of the way before the second semester," he says. "Now I can just focus on playing in the second half."</p> <p>Reiter says he grew up watching the Horns play.</p> <p>"I always came to the games when I was young and always wanted to play here &ndash; it's been a goal of mine my whole life. I've always been a fan of the U of L and I'm just really excited to be here."</p> <p>Adams says the positive relationship established between the 免费福利资源在线看片 and Lethbridge College programs is valuable to both schools and the community as a whole.</p> <p>"I really love the message this sends to the community. We appreciate, respect and value the work being done by Mike Hansen at Lethbridge College and we want to continue a bridge relationship with them in terms of player development," he says.</p> <p>Adams also credits Hansen for emphasizing the academic side of the student/athlete equation. Reiter, who is studying business at the college, expects to pursue business and accounting at the U of L.</p> <p>"Mike's put a focus on 免费福利资源在线看片 in his program, on top of the layers of excellence he's added to the program athletically," says Adams. "When players come over here, the courses transfer smoothly. It's really a great opportunity for kids in this area to go get some outstanding coaching, and get the reps in the games that they need to develop before they come over here. Then they're ready to play at the CIS level."</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field-group-format group_related_topics field-group-div group-related-topics block-title-body speed-fast effect-none"><h2><span>Related Topics</span></h2><div class="field field-name-opencalais-facility-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Facility:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/facility/lethbridge-college" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Lethbridge College</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-holiday-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Holiday:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/holiday/christmas" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Christmas</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-organization-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Organization:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/organization/lethbridge-college" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Lethbridge College</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/organization/picture-butte-high-school" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Picture Butte High School</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/organization/university-lethbridge-pronghorns" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge Pronghorns</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-person-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Person:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/person/logan-reiter" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Logan Reiter</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/person/mike-hansen" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Mike Hansen</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/person/dave-adams" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Dave Adams</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-position-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Position:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/position/player" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">player</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/position/head-coach" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">head coach</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/position/inch-guard" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">inch guard</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/position/athlete" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">athlete</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-provinceorstate-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">ProvinceOrState:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/province-or-state/alberta" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Alberta</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-sportsgame-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">SportsGame:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/sports-game/basketball" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">basketball</a></div></div></div></div><span property="rnews:name schema:name" content="Horns bring in Reiter from Kodiaks" class="rdf-meta"></span> Wed, 08 Dec 2010 22:06:07 +0000 trevor.kenney 4158 at /unews
