Distinctive Fiat Lux Ring introduced

The ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Alumni Association has launched the Fiat Lux Ring, helping alumni to show their pride in the U of L in a distinctive fashion.

The ring was officially unveiled on Thursday, Jan. 26 at a noon-hour BBQ and launch of the U of L's 45th anniversary activities.

The design, chosen after a competition, is by current Faculty of Fine Arts (new media) student Eric Klempnauer and is both simple and distinctive – cast in sterling silver, the band features the U of L's traditional fiery sun emblem between the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ's motto, Fiat Lux (Let there be light). All the rings are numbered and alumni can request specific numbering for their own ring. Klempnauer will receive the first ring upon graduation.

Kathy Lewis, the current president of the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Alumni Association, says that the ring concept is one that all graduates can embrace, and that its distinctive design will be a conversation starter.

"Our graduates are everywhere, and making a real difference around the world," says Lewis. "We were looking for a way for them to identify each other no matter where they were, and we also wanted a design that would show off our differences. I believe Eric accomplished that, and it is also especially meaningful that a current student – and future member of our alumni community – designed the ring for us."

The design is suitable for men and women, with additional engraving available on the inside of the band.

The Fiat Lux Ring is priced at $249 + tax. If required, a $10 shipping fee will apply.

Alumni Association AGM Wednesday night

The ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Alumni Association (ULAA) will be holding its Annual General Meeting Wednesday, June 8 at 7 p.m. in Andy's Place (AH100).

The AGM is open to all U of L alumni and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Among items to be discussed at the meeting are plans for the next year as well as any amendments that may be proposed to the ULAA constitution.

FNMI Chapter meeting Tuesday night

The ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Alumni Association will be holding its Annual General Meeting for its First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) chapter on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in Andy's Place (AH100).

In 2008, the FNMI Chapter was established to renew, strengthen and enlighten life-long relationships with each other, the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge and the Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal community.

The FNMI Chapter is looking for interested alum's to share their ideas, volunteer at events and to participate on the board of directors. Those who would like to get involved can e-mail the Alumni Association at alumni@uleth.ca or contact by phone at 403-317-2825.

Deadline nears for Gill memorial golf event

The registration deadline for the John Gill Memorial Golf Tournament is fast approaching.

The annual Gill Memorial event is set for Friday, June 12 but registration for the tourney closes Friday, May 29. This tournament is open to everyone and golfers of all levels. Proceeds of the tournament support bursaries for students in financial need.

John Gill (BA '94) was the driving force behind the original "Birdies for Bursaries" golf tournament, which raised thousands of dollars for
U of L student bursaries. The tournament was renamed the John Gill Memorial Golf Tournament in honour of his passing in November, 2007.

Gill was a good friend of the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge, the Alumni Association and the community. He worked as a lawyer and respected Crown Prosecutor in Lethbridge in addition to raising an active family and serving as the U of L Alumni Association President and volunteering as member of the Board of Governors and Senate.

The tourney is slated for the Picture Butte Golf Course and features a 1 p.m. shotgun start. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Both corporate or hole sponsorship is available.

The early bird deadline to register for the John Gill Memorial Golf Tournament is fast approaching.

Golfers have until May 1 to meet the early bird deadline and register for the John Gill Memorial Golf Tournament, an event that supports bursaries for students in financial need. Open to everyone and golfers of all levels, the tournament is Friday, June 12 at the Picture Butte Golf Club. Registration fees are $150 per person with corporate or hole sponsorship available.
