CM works by rewarding counselling attendance and abstinence from gambling.</p><p>Dr. Darren Christensen, a U of L addictions counselling professor, says contingency management has been used successfully in the treatment of various addictive substances. CM uses motivational incentives, usually vouchers that can be exchanged for retail goods and services, as rewards when a participant performs a target behaviour or withheld when the participant doesn&rsquo;t perform the behaviour.</p><p>&ldquo;Problem gambling is a significant public health concern in Canada, causing harm to not only the gambler, but to his or her family and society at large,&rdquo; says Christensen. &ldquo;New treatment approaches are needed as gamblers often refuse to attend treatment and also have high treatment drop-out rates. This study will help us determine if contingency management will improve the overall effectiveness of treatment for disordered gambling.&rdquo;</p><p>CM is based on the premise that problematic gambling develops in association with the regular but variable nature of gambling wins. The CM treatment uses the same approach to reverse these associations. It appears to be very successful but has only been applied once to problematic gambling. With this study, Christensen hopes to provide more evidence regarding its use as an additional treatment for people with disordered gambling.</p><p>Christensen is seeking English-speaking research participants who meet the criteria of a diagnosis of disordered gambling, who are 18 to 75 years old and primarily seeking treatment for disordered gambling. The study requires participants to be involved for 14 weeks. Anyone interested in participating is asked to contact Christensen at 403-329-5124.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field-group-format group_related_topics field-group-div group-related-topics block-title-body speed-fast effect-none"><h2><span>Related Topics</span></h2><div class="field field-name-opencalais-medicaltreatmen-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">MedicalTreatment:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/medical-treatment/counselling" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">counselling</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-organization-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Organization:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/organization/university-lethbridge" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-person-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Person:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/person/darren-christensen" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Darren Christensen</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-position-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Position:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/position/addictions-counselling-professor" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">addictions counselling professor</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/position/researcher" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">researcher</a></div></div></div></div><span property="rnews:name schema:name" content="U of L study seeks to find additional treatment for disordered gambling" class="rdf-meta"></span> Thu, 03 Sep 2015 18:01:49 +0000 caroline.zentner 7459 at /unews Study shows Battle River clam populations in drastic decline /unews/article/study-shows-battle-river-clam-populations-drastic-decline <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even" property="rnews:articlebody schema:articleBody"> <p>Freshwater mussels in Alberta spend their lives out of sight but a Finnish researcher who has studied them since 1993 hopes they don&rsquo;t stay out of mind.</p><p>The results of a study by Dr. Jouni Taskinen, a professor from the Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Jyväskylä in Finland who is a world expert on freshwater mussels, and Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge biology professor Dr. Cam Goater, point to a troubling trend.</p><p>Taskinen and Goater have studied the Battle River southeast of Edmonton, a river that hosts the highest diversity of freshwater clams in Alberta.<div class="image-caption-container right" style="width:500px;"><img src="/unews/sites/default/files/JouniTaskinenmainimage.jpg" title="Dr. Jouni Taskinen, holding a quadrat that will cordon off a section of the riverbed, prepares to take a sample of the clam populations in the Battle River. That shows that even the rarest species are reproducing in the river. It is a good sign of current reproduction, but the bad news is that there has been a drastic decline in clam density.&rdquo;</p><p>Taskinen says similar results are being reported in many other areas of the world, making freshwater mussels one of the most endangered aquatic organisms.</p><p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s quite a universal phenomenon that almost everywhere, native freshwater mussels are declining and there are probably several reasons that act together,&rdquo; he says.</p><p>Those reasons include the building of dams, which affect the mobility of fish, increasing amounts of silt on the river bottom from human activities like construction, toxic contaminants in the water, or hot, dry weather that reduces water flows. Natural enemies like clam-eating muskrats, dam-building beavers and sterilizing parasites are also on the list. Fortunately, the exotic, invasive mussel species like the zebra mussel are not yet a problem in Alberta.</p><p>Taskinen and Goater were post-doctoral fellows at the same lab at the Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Alberta when they first began studying clams in the Battle River. They decided to conclude their study this year since Taskinen is on sabbatical leave. In early June, Taskinen, his wife and four daughters arrived in Lethbridge to continue the study and to explore southern Alberta.</p><p>The Battle River is a hotspot of clam diversity in Alberta, likely because the river, which doesn&rsquo;t originate in the mountains, has a more stable bottom environment that isn&rsquo;t subjected to spring flooding. Taskinen and Goater have taken samples from the river every 11 years to assess clam biodiversity in the river and to evaluate changes in the density and age structure of clam populations.</p><p>&ldquo;We don&rsquo;t usually even see them but they are important players in the river or lake ecosystem,&rdquo; says Taskinen. &ldquo; They collect material from the water column and transfer it to the bottom where it is a good food source for insect larvae, for example. The insect larvae, on the other hand, are food for fish. Mussels provide all sorts of ecosystem services, including cleansing of water.&rdquo;</p><p>Alberta is home to four main species of freshwater mussels, including the fatmucket, the most common clam, the white heelsplitter, the giant floater and the creek heelsplitter.</p><p>The life cycle of the clam begins with a larval stage. The adult female releases larvae called glochidia that attach themselves to the gills or fins of fish. Under normal circumstances, they don&rsquo;t hurt the fish, but stay attached for two weeks to a month as they metamorphose into juveniles and then drop off to settle on the river bottom. If they happen to settle into a suitable environment, a new mussel bed is formed.</p><p><div class="image-caption-container left" style="width:350px;"><img src="/unews/sites/default/files/Albertaclamscontentphoto.jpg" title="From left to right are a giant floater, creek heelsplitter, white heelsplitter, female fatmucket and male fatmucket. Photos courtesy of Jouni Taskinen.</div></div>As filter feeders, a mussel can filter 10 to 30 litres of water per day, cleaning it in the process. They eat microscopic algae but collect all sorts of particles from the water and what they don&rsquo;t eat, they pack into a ball of slime that they spit out onto the river bottom.</p><p>The distribution and occurrence of clams in Alberta, and in many other parts of the world, haven&rsquo;t really been mapped out because they are not easy to find. But scientists do know that 40 species, out of 400 to 500 species of clams in the world, have gone extinct in the last century and many others are close to extinction.</p><p>&ldquo;Mapping the distribution and densities of clams in Alberta rivers is a top priority for the management and conservation of this important but poorly known part of biological diversity. That&rsquo;s one of the directions that we would like to take our research in the future,&rdquo; he says.</p><p>Taskinen and his family will return to Finland at the end of July but they&rsquo;ve used their time in Alberta to visit mountain and prairie landscapes alike.</p><p>&ldquo;We have enjoyed being here and the weather in Lethbridge has been so nice while it&rsquo;s been cold and rainy in Finland,&rdquo; he says.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field-group-format group_related_topics field-group-div group-related-topics block-title-body speed-fast effect-none"><h2><span>Related research into the Subarctic and Arctic to compare legal policies that affect first Nations and Inuit people in Northern Quebec, and those of the Sami people of her home country of Norway. Both groups were affected by large-scale hydroelectric power developments that changed their land and lifestyles, and the legality of the expropriation of indigenous land for these developments was questionable. She will also receive $5,000 to further her studies.</p><p>&ldquo;Parkland is excited to be able to support the diverse research represented by Dr. Suzanne Lenon and Ann Holden,&rdquo; said Dr. Trevor Harrison, a U of L sociology researcher and Director of the Parkland Institute.</p><p>&ldquo;Parkland&rsquo;s emphasis has been, and remains, on research that is academically sound, that is important to the broad public and that dares to push the boundaries of our understanding. Both of these research projects fit that bill.&rdquo;</p><p>Harrison added that though they are very different, both projects deal with legal issues and social policy.</p><p>&ldquo;Dr. Lenon&rsquo;s work will contribute to the body of knowledge that deals with immigration, polygamy, and gender equality, and how those concepts are intertwined, in an often confusing way, from a policy perspective.&nbsp; Ann Holden&rsquo;s work will explore and explain how the respective legal systems of Norway and Canada have framed the implementation of hydroelectric projects on indigenous land. Though they are far apart geographically, there are some striking similarities that both parties could gain from knowing more about.&rdquo;</p><p><strong>SUZANNE LENON</strong></p><p>In Lenon&rsquo;s case, she is using the recent (2011) Polygamy Reference case in British Columbia as a springboard for discussion, which upholds the prohibition of polygamy in Canada as constitutionally sound. &ldquo; As in the United States, polygamy is illegal in Canada, but people often immigrate to Canada from a number of countries in Africa and the Middle East where polygamous relationships are, in fact, legal,&rdquo; Lenon said.</p><p>Lenon said that one of the reasons for the continued criminalization polygamous marriages in Canada (and in the West) is that of gender equality.</p><p>&ldquo;The second spouse cannot be legally acknowledged, and has very few, if any, rights if the relationship breaks down. The same challenges apply to people in Canadian polygamous relationships in communities such as Bountiful, BC, where the law applies to the individual who is considered to be legally married, but not to other polygamous spouses. While this law is upheld in the name of gender equality, in these cases the law prevents women from being legally supported if there are problems, and this, ironically, has created gender inequality.&rdquo;</p><p>There is, she says, vigorous debate as to whether continued criminalization of polygamous marriage is a viable public policy strategy to address the complex issues arising from it.</p><p><strong>ANN HOLDEN</strong></p><p>Holden&rsquo;s work involves a topic that is just as complex, involves a number of inequality elements, and has affected people -- but in a different way.</p><p>The development of hyropower projects in both Norway and Canada a few decades ago and 1980scaused more grief for the politicians than they would have expected, because the negative reactions to it was so strong. Both the James Bay Cree, a fishing, hunting, and trapping community in eastern James Bay in Canada, and the reindeer-farming Sami people in Finnmark, Northern Norway argued that they had rights that stemmed from their immemorial usage of the land.</p><p>&ldquo;Historically, land ownership, in the Western meaning of the word, was a foreign concept for both the Sami and the James Bay Cree,&rdquo; Holden said.&nbsp; &ldquo; The Norwegian and British legal systems suited a farming culture, and private ownership over land was the most common form of a legal connection to land, although not the only form of legal rights to land. When the Scandinavian legal traditions met the Sami traditions and the James Bay Cree met the English and later French traditions, the needs of both communities were written into the laws - but not equally.&rdquo;</p><p>Holden said that her work will help Indigenous groups learn more about how the laws of land ownership -- and land management -- can apply to current issues where land is disputed, in particular in cases that involve oil, gas and mining exploration in the northern areas of several Canadian provinces and Territories, and also in northern Sweden, where similar activities are taking place.</p><p>&ldquo;In Canada, resource extraction (i.e. mining) on indigenous land happens in several Provinces. In Sweden, civil disobedience that mirrors the actions the Norwegian Sami used in the 1970s and 1980s was used as a tool to put a mining project on traditional Sami reindeer herding ground on the political agenda. These events are taking place right now, and have significant parallels to the challenges I am looking at which took place decades ago. The historical context is important to understand current issues because changes to the law in both the cases I study were consistent with legal traditions in Canada and Norway.&rdquo;</p><p>Ultimately for Harrison, funding projects that stimulate not only public conversation but social change -- and that allow researchers to explore topics of public interest&nbsp; -- is what makes him happy as a researcher and as a representative of the Parkland Institute.</p><p>&ldquo;This is the second year that the Parkland Institute has partnered with the U of L to deliver the scholarships. I want to thank the Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge for its tremendous support given to Parkland, in particular for making the awards possible.&rdquo;</p><p>The project period is two years, and the researchers are expected to deliver a final report on their work to the Parkland Institute, which will make their findings public.</p><p><strong>Contacts</strong>:</p><p>Dr. Suzanne Lenon, Women and Wildfire Study Group suggests that communities affected by significant traumatic events invest in recovery efforts that focus on the community as a whole, and not just those who experienced losses as a result of the event.</p><p>Kulig has spent considerable time researching rural health issues and community resiliency, particularly in communities that have experienced wildfire events.</p><p>In a paper just published in the Journal of Community Psychology, Kulig and co-authors Dr. Ivan Townshend (geography, Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge), Dr. Dana Edge (nursing, Queen&rsquo;s Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬), Dr. William Reimer (sociology, Concordia Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬) and Dr. Nancy Lightfoot (rural and northern health, Laurentian Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬) suggest that a community&rsquo;s ability to recover from a wildfire event is impacted by many factors, but that it is imperative that all members of the community receive timely access to recovery services, whether or not they were evacuated during the event or experienced a tangible loss.<div class="image-caption-container right" style="width:400px;"><img src="/unews/sites/default/files/JudithKulig-main.jpg" Study Group offer key recommendations for community rebuilding after disaster.</div></div></p><p>&ldquo;While our study reflects the experiences of those in a wildfire event, the results are relatable to similar traumatic community events, such as the recent flooding in High River and the urban communities in Calgary,&rdquo; says Kulig.</p><p>The Rural Wildfire Study Group conducted a series of qualitative interviews with community members who experienced wildfire events in Barriere, B.C. (2003) and LaRonge, Sask. (1999) to answer the question, &ldquo;Does the severity level of wildfires based on loss make a difference to the experience of individual and community impacts?&rdquo;</p><p>The results of those interviews suggest that residents in both communities, whether or not they experienced loss, were significantly impacted by the event.</p><p>Further, in order to facilitate the social rebuilding of these communities, it was important that community resources be made available to all members of the community to mitigate lingering negative effects of the event.</p><p>&ldquo;There is an expectation that those who were evacuated from the community or who experienced the loss of physical property as a result of the event are in need of and will receive community support and resources,&rdquo; says Kulig. &ldquo; But our research shows that there is often a long-term emotional impact felt throughout the community and that these resources must be available on a much wider scale to help the community heal.&rdquo;</p><p>In the end, tragic events have the capability of bringing communities together in a cohesive and supportive manner.</p><p>Through continued gathering of information about the varying responses of community residents who have experienced traumatic community events, Kulig and her group hope to better understand the impact and duration of the effects and determine appropriate disaster recovery protocols.</p><p>Additional information about Kulig&rsquo;s research, and recommendations for community rebuilding after a disaster, can be found at the following recently created through a $2.5 million investment from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, which promotes and assists research and scholarship in the social sciences and humanities.<br> <br> The Observatory's work will be particularly relevant in Alberta, as recent province-wide flooding may increase the number of individuals who could be homeless.<br> <br> "Homelessness remains a massive national issue, even though communities across the country have made great strides in reducing the number of people experiencing homelessness," said Belanger, a researcher/professor in Native American Studies and the Faculty of Health Sciences. "We know that homelessness is usually the result of the cumulative impact of a number of factors, rather than a single cause."<br> <br> Belanger said individual challenges or a traumatic event like flooding, compounded by structural factors like income, affordable housing and discrimination, or failures in a system designed to help vulnerable people, can render people homeless.<br> <br> In Canada approximately 200,000 people are homeless each year, and about 30,000 people homeless on any given night.<br> <br> In Calgary, there were more than 3100 people counted in January 2012 as part of a homeless person census, according to recent data published in "The State of Homelessness in Canada." A web link attached to full report is included, below.<br> <br> Counts taken in October, 2012 showed Edmonton recording more than 2100, Red Deer nearly 280 while Lethbridge recorded 99 individuals.<br> <br> Belanger added that Aboriginal people are particularly at risk, as are low-income workers and, increasingly, families.<br> <br> Belanger said one of the key goals of the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness group is to work as a team to devise best practices that can be housed in the Observatory for use by anyone &ndash; researchers, community organizations and policymakers.<br> <br> "More than 25 researchers are involved, plus many more local, provincial and national advocacy groups and support networks, so we feel quite confident about being able to gather a large amount of information quickly, and which we know everyone can share."<br> <br> The group won't be simply researching the topic &ndash; Belanger said they will be on the ground, translating research into action wherever possible.<br> <br> "We are expected to participate to help people create response and prevention strategies. I am very pleased to be working with the City of Lethbridge and other agencies in our community and the province."<br> <br> "Though efforts like Social Housing in Action and the Vibrant Lethbridge Poverty Reduction Strategy group, our community is working really hard to put in place effective systems to reduce homelessness, as are similar groups in Calgary and Edmonton."<br> <br> The Canadian Observatory on Homelessness is housed at York Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ and is led by Dr. Stephen Gaetz, professor and Associate Dean, Education. SPIRE measures infrared light and picks up heat and chemical signals that are not visible by optical telescopes -- turning that data into images and information researchers will use to learn more about the life and death of stars and galaxies.<br> <br> Image samples are available <a href="http://www.asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/satellites/herschel/photos.asp" rel="nofollow">here</a>.<br> <br> Now that the school-bus sized telescope will cease its active duty, astronomers from 14 countries, including Canada, will devote their full attention to analyzing the prolific telescope's legacy of data.<br> <br> The five-year, post-operation phase will see the data obtained during the mission used to develop improved calibration algorithms to allow the most information to be extracted. Eventually the data will be reprocessed and placed in an archive.<br> <br> In addition to dramatically enhancing the level of information about the origins of the universe, the U of L contributions to the Herschel mission saw the creation of numerous and unique student experiences at all levels, and a high-tech spin-off company - Blue Sky Spectroscopy - founded by Naylor in 2003, and now privately owned and operated. Blue Sky is one of the three international Data Processing and Science Analysis Software centres for the SPIRE instrument. Data will continue to be downloaded from the spacecraft and stored on the Blue Sky servers. Its highly qualified staff, all with postgraduate degrees, specialize in custom hardware and software spectroscopic solutions. Customers include NASA, ESA, and CSA, and many leading research institutes such as Harvard, Berkeley, Chicago, Max Planck and Cardiff, NIST, Centre d'Etudes Atomique, Paris, Institute National d'Optique, Canada to name a few.<br> <br> Additional information about future projects Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge researchers are planning that arise from the Herschel mission can be found at schema:articleBody"> <p>A new study by a Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge researcher has found that urban Aboriginal adults who embrace traditional culture are less likely to experience drug problems.<br> <br> Dr. Cheryl Currie, an assistant professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge, collected data from almost 400 Edmonton-based Aboriginal Canadians. The study results, recently published in the prestigious journal Social Science &amp; Medicine, suggest Aboriginal cultural practice is associated with reduced prescription and illicit drug problems for urban Aboriginal adults.<br> <br> "More than half of all Aboriginal Canadians live in cities", says Dr. Currie, lead investigator of the study. "In fact, Aboriginal peoples are urbanizing rapidly around the globe, yet we know little about factors that support Aboriginal health and well-being in cities.<br> <br> Results suggest Aboriginal adults with strong ties to traditional activities had higher self-esteem, and this helped explain why engaging in cultural traditions was protective.<br> <br> "But statistically, increased self-esteem did not explain the protective effect entirely" says Currie. "Aboriginal culture was also protecting urban Aboriginal peoples through additional mechanisms that remain unknown."<br> <br> Determining what these additional mechanisms are in collaboration and partnership with urban Aboriginal communities in Alberta will be a key focus of Currie's future research.<br> <br> "To improve urban Aboriginal health, we need to start asking different questions and to start looking for different answers that are grounded in the knowledge of the community itself." Currie says.<br> <br> When asked what it meant to practice Aboriginal culture in a city, those in the study described participating in Aboriginal ceremonies and cultural events; valuing spirituality and family; and respecting oneself, others, and the earth. As stated by one study participant: When one returns to the Red Road one has a community, one has an identity, one feels the Creator working in their life - spirit heals.<br> <br> The Social Science &amp; Medicine journal publication entitled: Illicit and prescription drug problems among urban Aboriginal adults in Canada: The role of traditional culture in protection and resilience can be found <a href="http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0277953613002013" rel="nofollow">here</a>.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field-group-format group_related_topics field-group-div group-related-topics block-title-body speed-fast effect-none"><h2><span>Related Topics</span></h2><div class="field field-name-opencalais-city-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">City:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/city/edmonton" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Edmonton</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-facility-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Facility:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/facility/university-lethbridge" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-organization-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Organization:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/organization/faculty-health-sciences" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Faculty of Health Sciences</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/organization/university-lethbridge" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-person-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Person:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/person/cheryl-currie" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Cheryl Currie</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-position-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Position:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/position/lead-investigator" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">lead investigator</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/position/assistant-professor" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">assistant professor</a></div><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/position/researcher" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">researcher</a></div><div class="field-item odd"><a href="/unews/position/lead-investigator-study" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">lead investigator of the study</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-opencalais-provinceorstate-tags field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">ProvinceOrState:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><a href="/unews/province-or-state/alberta" typeof="skos:Concept" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel">Alberta</a></div></div></div></div><span property="rnews:name schema:name" content="Currie study says Aboriginal culture key to limiting drug problems" class="rdf-meta"></span> Mon, 29 Apr 2013 16:26:23 +0000 trevor.kenney 3507 at /unews
