UNews - President's Award /unews/organization/presidents-award en Animal Care Services Team earns President's Award for Service Excellence /unews/article/animal-care-services-team-earns-presidents-award-service-excellence <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item even" property="rnews:articlebody schema:articleBody"> <p>The 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge is proud to recognize the Animal Care Services Team with the President&#39;s Award for Service Excellence.</p><p><strong>Animal Care Services Team</strong><div class="image-caption-container right" style="width:500px;"><img src="/unews/sites/default/files/PresAward-AnimalCare.jpg" alt=""></div></p><p>The Animal Care Services (ACS) team often goes unnoticed in their support of groundbreaking research that has positioned the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge as one of Canada&rsquo;s leading research institutions.</p><p>ACS is responsible for maintaining a gold standard for animal welfare and care&nbsp; for the more than 5,000 research and teaching animals per year housed in the new Rodent Research Vivarium in Science Commons, the Aquatic Research Facility in the Alberta Water and Environmental Science Building and Biological Sciences Laboratory in Science Commons.</p><p><span><span><span><span>Staff in all facilities are experts in their fields, holding higher education degrees in aquatic research or specific registered laboratory animal technician training, and dedicate their professional lives to the animals they care for.</span></span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span><span>In addition to safeguarding the welfare of animals and ensuring the highest ethical standards are upheld, the ACS team also trains undergraduate and graduate students, researchers and visiting scholars in the animal handling and biomethodology training related to their research.</span></span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span><span>When COVID-19 struck, the ACS team became essential workers &ndash; a fitting title for this team which continued to come to campus to care for the animals. Due to the urgent and full-time nature of animal care, the ACS team provides uninterrupted training and support to our animal research community, seven days a week, 365 days a year on-call or in-person, regardless of the time of day. This team shows immeasurable resilience, commitment and strength, going above and beyond to ensure research continues at full capacity. H</span><span>is love of academic technology shines through in everything he does</span><span>. Josh is innovative and proactive. </span><span>Over the last 15 years of working with the Dhillon School of Business (DSB) in IT support and management, Josh always goes above and beyond his job requirements.</span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span>Josh was indispensable in the transition to online learning. As part of the COVID-tech working group, he helped the DSB community meet new technology needs. He generously offered help, provided access to software packages and took leadership in creating Zoom tutorials. </span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span>Josh always puts students first and exceeds expectations on every front. Even before the 免费福利资源在线看片&rsquo;s current financial challenges, Josh sought out ways to save money by coordinating licenses and was flexible in his approach. For example, his support of the Citrix environment used in the SCALE-UP classroom, which would not otherwise have been available to students. Josh even went to campus on his day off to help students with computer problems, an example of his dedication to helping others.</span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span><span>Josh regularly works with instructors to support blended learning initiatives and to spark student engagement. This includes supporting the unique DSB Financial Trading Room, a notable experiential learning opportunity. Each year, Josh volunteers his time to provide tech support for the Management Scholarship Dinner, a well-known and high-profile community fundraising event. As the assistant director of the Teaching Centre, Jeff&rsquo;s work spans more than 15 years and encompasses countless projects and initiatives. Described by team members and colleagues as an exemplary leader and a highly respected voice, Jeff&rsquo;s passion for uplifting others is renowned across campus.</span></span></p><p><span><span>As the first person at work each day and with his signature open-door policy, team members look forward to his greeting and support as early as 7:30 each morning. His flexibility, availability and people-first approach leave those who interact with Jeff with a feeling of gratitude. Jeff handles difficult situations with tact and patience, uplifting team members and building community across campus.</span></span></p><p><span><span>Always humble, Jeff is the type of individual to pick up projects and tasks that are challenging and unglamorous, giving others credit before himself. That said, Jeff is the driving force behind the success of many ideas and projects coming to fruition and often aids faculty looking to increase engagement and build community in their classrooms. </span></span></p><p><span><span>Jeff helped create the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning group and serves on the SPARK organizing committee and the Teaching Centre&rsquo;s Talking about Teaching programs. He helped facilitate the Instructional Skills Workshop and Facilitators Development Workshop for graduate students and faculty members and led the creation of Fit for Online, an intensive boot camp that helped faculty members design their courses for online learning. In addition to mentoring co-op and applied studies students, Jeff also co-teaches a third-year liberal education course that he co-designed with Agility.</span></span></p><p><span><span>Jeff&rsquo;s supportive presence is unmatched, and his ability to lighten a situation is hard not to notice. He creates memorable experiences for everyone who interacts with him.
