Dhillon School of Business High School Finance Competition now virtual, accessible to more schools

Registration is now open for high-school students across Canada to compete in the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge’s fifth annual Dhillon School of Business High School Finance Competition.

The competition, which starts March 1, will be run virtually for 2021, a change which is proving advantageous for participants who may not have been able to take part in the competition previously.

Dhillon School of Business Dean, Dr. Kerry Godfrey, says that the virtual event is now more accessible and cuts costs for high schools.

“While we will miss the excitement of being face-to-face in our trading room,” Godfrey says, “we’re excited that students from across Canada can now take advantage of this unique experience and gain practical skills while exploring a future in business and finance.”

The response from schools has already been positive, with students from across Alberta as well as Ontario already registered.

Though the competition will be held virtually, the main components of the challenge remain unchanged from previous years. The competition begins with an investment challenge where high-school teams manage an investment portfolio using simulated money in real markets. After two months the top performing team from each school goes on to present their results to a panel of judges and compete in a final simulated trading challenge. Prizes range from $500 to $1000 in Dhillon School of Business entrance award scholarships.
