Possibilities to be showcased at 50th anniversary Open House

The ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge has added a special spring Open House for prospective students, their families and the local community to learn more about the exciting educational opportunities being offered.

“This is a chance for people to visit campus and check out some of the things that are happening here,” says Susan Bakker (BA/BMgt ’10), manager of national recruitment. “Because it’s the U of L’s 50th anniversary year, we wanted to give people another occasion to see our campus beyond the traditional open house in the fall.”

The event on Saturday, Feb. 4 goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 1st Choice Savings Centre. The first session, Finding Your Way, is aimed at those who may not know what educational direction they’d like to take.

“We’ll have some professionals on hand to not only help them navigate how to collect information at an open house but also help them navigate the rest of their educational journey,” says Bakker. “Sometimes students have a wide variety of interests and they’re not sure which direction to head; they can talk it through with us and we can maybe provide them with some tangible career outcomes.”

In addition to other sessions, including liberal education, education abroad and faculty-specific introductions, participants can take part in tours of Fine Arts, the health simulation lab, the addictions counselling lab and the financial trading room. Admissions representatives will be available to help students with an application. U of L Senate volunteers will be pairing up with student mentors to deliver campus tours that will give visitors some of the U of L’s history along with information about getting around on campus.

Those who’d like to attend are invited to register beforehand to speed up the check-in process.

“I encourage everyone to come out and we look forward to sharing our campus,” says Bakker.
