U of L’s Spooky Science Weekend promises tricks and treats

Children aged five to 12 will get the chance to create eerie sounds, make and play with fake blood and boogers, and draw with black-light paint at the fourth annual Spooky Science Weekend Oct. 24 and 25.

Spooky Science Weekend features three sessions of Halloween-based science activities, including some explosive demonstrations. Each session ends with making ice cream using liquid nitrogen.

The weekend is organized by ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge science graduate students who volunteer for the national Let’s Talk Science Outreach program. The weekend gives them the opportunity to share their passion for science, helps inspire students to pursue careers in science, and increases public accessibility to science. More than 20 graduate and undergraduate students are volunteering their time at the event.

People can choose one of three sessions. The Friday session goes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday sessions go from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For safety reasons, children must be accompanied by an adult. Each session is limited to 100 participants and children must be pre-registered. Registration is free and opens Wednesday on a first-come, first-served basis.
