Eight years after finishing second at the Commonwealth Games, ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Pronghorns alumnus Jim Steacy (BASc '09) has made it to the top of the podium.

Jim Steacy is the most accomplished athlete in the history of the Pronghorn Athletics throwing program.

Steacy, competing for Canada at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, won gold in the men's hammer throw event on Tuesday night with a throw of 74.16 metres. His throw edged out England's Nick Miller, who threw 72.99 metres for silver, and Scotland's Mark Dry, who posted a 71.64 metre throw for bronze.

A two-time Canadian Olympian, Steacy has battled injuries for major parts of the last five years but is finally healthy again and regaining his championship form.

Steacy has won 10 Canadian hammer throw titles and was dominant throughout his career at the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge. A four-time Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Male Field Athlete of the Year, Steacy won nine CIS medals, including eight gold while wearing Pronghorns colours.

In Glasgow, Steacy qualified for the finals of the men's hammer throw event with a mark of 70.62 metres, and was shy of Miller's leading qualifying mark of 72.76 metres. He turned the tables in the final however, blasting past Miller to earn Canada's seventh gold medal of the day and 16th gold medal overall.

Steacy holds the Canadian hammer throw record of 79.13 metres, which he achieved at the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge's Chinook Throws Gala in 2008.
