U of L students go homeless in support of Wood's Homes

A group of ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge students -- and some guest sleepers -- is once again braving the cold for the annual 5 Days for the Homeless event.

The students have taken up residence outside the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness, giving up personal comforts for a week while they live in a cardboard shelter. Throughout the entire week, students are only permitted to eat donated food, giving them a true understanding of what it is like to be homeless. The week ends Friday, Mar. 21 at 5 p.m.

The student group is raising funds in support of Wood’s Homes Emergency Youth Shelter, a local organization that supports youth at risk in the community. To date, student groups have raised more than $60,000 for the organization.

Wood’s Homes Emergency Youth Shelter takes in teens experiencing family conflict situations or other challenges. The youth can stay for a night, or longer if necessary. Wood’s Homes offers meals, support, assistance, and overnight and short-term stays. The funds raised from 5 Days for the Homeless go towards items such as food, supplies, or games for the youth.

��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge staffers and community members have also signed on to spend a night in the great outdoors. Students can be found around campus all week asking for donations for Wood's Homes. Additional activities planned for the week include a jam session, raffle and BBQ.
