Racism tackled by SAC and LPIRG

The Student Action Collective (SAC), a working group of the Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group (LPIRG) at the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge, is tackling issues of racism by offering a series of anti-racism events both at the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ and in the community.

The SAC is specifically looking at issues of racism against First Nations people in southern Alberta. Their campaign began Tuesday evening with a screening of the film, "No More Smoke Signals" and continues this weekend with Saturday's Community Solidarity March. The march, entitled, "Citizens of Lethbridge Standing Against Racism", capitalizes on World Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It begins at noon outside Lethbridge City Hall.

Sunday, a community talk and round table discussion will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Theatre Gallery at the Lethbridge Public Library. A pair of films, "You Are on Indian Land" and "In the Same Boat", are scheduled for screening Tuesday, Mar. 24, 7 p.m. at Galileo's Gallery. The events then conclude with an anti-racism workshop, Saturday, Mar. 28, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Andy's Place (AH100). Registration for this event is $15 per person and includes lunch. The SAC, along with the Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group, is establishing a legacy of affecting change in the community. Last year, the group ran a campaign that explored the issue of poverty.
