Headshave for Cancer event in Atrium

The sounds of razors will dominate the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Atrium Friday as the annual Headshave for Cancer is presented by the Omicron-Xi chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

The third annual fundraiser for the Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF) looks to build on a successful 2008 event that saw a total of $45,000 raised to support the ACF. The goal this year is to top the $50,000 mark.

The event originated in 2003 by the Haskayne School of Business in Calgary, and has thus far spread to surrounding post-secondary school campuses and organizations.

The Headshave will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the U of L Atrium.

Student art show and sale in Atrium

The ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Atrium is filled with examples of work from U of L students this week as the B-R-A-C-E-S art show runs, Monday through Wednesday.

This art show and sale is organized by the U of L Arts Society and features a variety of media including painting, drawing, prints, sculpture and video, as well as a performance work by Christopher Stapleton.

The show runs Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours for Tuesday's showing have been extended in the evening, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Department of Art offers degrees in Art Studio and Art History & Museum Studies taught by practicing artists and scholars. Within a liberal education context, the programs provide the opportunity for intensive instruction in both areas and for students to engage in critical, theoretical and historical discourses related to contemporary art practice.

Art Studio courses combine traditional and emerging media, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, computer-based art, audio art, photography, video, printmaking, installation and performance art.

The U of L offers spacious and well-equipped studio facilities that permit students to undertake ambitious material projects in an environment of expert technical support, creative guidance and critical dialogue. Foundation courses provide introduction to a diversity of materials and ideas that are expanded upon in upper level courses. Senior Studio students are allocated individual studio spaces facilitating independent art production at an advanced level.

International Dinner tickets available

Friday is the last day for discount ticket prices for the 17th Annual International Dinner.

Considered one of the highlight social events of the academic year, the 17th Annual International Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12 in the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Atrium.

Tickets are currently on sale at the International Centre for Students (SU040) or online at this International Dinner link. Early bird pricing ends Friday with tickets priced at $38 each or $275 for a table of eight. After Friday, tickets will be priced at $45 each and $320 for a table of eight. Students can pick up tickets for $20 apiece.

The theme of this year's event is "A Celebration of Diversity". It promises to be a very stimulating evening featuring a delicious menu of ethnic foods from Hungary, Israel, Sweden, Mexico, India, Greece, Vietnam and the Philippines.

There also promises to be a diverse and exciting ethnic entertainment lineup, including the vocal talent of U of L student Cesar Aguilar, belly dancing by Ammena Dance Company, the U of L Global Drums team and special guest from Japan, Makoto Sakurada.
