Student Speaker Challenge finals tonight

The inaugural Changing the World Student Speaker Challenge comes to a close tonight with the final session of the two-month event.

The Changing the World Student Speaker Challenge is an initiative of SACPA on Campus; which is a collaboration between the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Students' Union (ULSU), LPIRG (Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group) and SACPA (Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs).

The event began in February with preliminary rounds of the challenge that whittled the field down to first semifinals and now finals. Tonight, 7 p.m. in Andy's Place (AH100), Jeff Henry and Trish Silk will square off for the title and a $500 prize.

The two finalists have beaten out their peers in presenting their ideas on the changes they would like to see in our world and how they would go about making these changes. Tonight, Henry will speak on Change Through Independent Media, while Silk will address Change Through Diversity.

SACPA on Campus has a mandate to encourage thought and discourse outside of the classic lecture style to students and the university community at large. In keeping with this, SACPA on Campus has developed an interactive format that encourages discussion and open discourse with one another and with the presenter during events. This style gives students the chance to question and discuss what they have just learned and encourages a more open exchange of ideas.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this final session and vote for the student who best presents his/her ideas. Refreshments will be served.

The second session of the Changing the World Student Speaker Challenge is on tap today in the Students' Union Building, Ballroom A.

Student speakers Trish Silk and Josh Pollard will face off at 12:15 p.m. as they look to advance to the next round of the challenge. The topic up for debate in this session is: Our Current Crisis: What Does Change Mean In Our World Today?
