Hot water shut down throughout campus

The ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Facility Operations and Maintenance department will be replacing campus hot water valves throughout the week, Aug. 23-27.

This valve replacement will affect the availability of hot water in a variety of locations that are on the primary heating loop.

Buildings that will be affected are as follows: ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ Hall, ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ Centre for the Arts, Library, Centre for Sports & Wellness, Students' Union and Turcotte Hall.

This shut down will only affect the availability of hot water, while cold water will still run.

A large portion of the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge campus will be without hot water Thursday, Aug. 27 as maintenance will be performed on the heating system in the central plant.

Domestic hot water will not be available from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the following buildings: ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ Hall, ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ Centre for the Arts, Turcotte Hall, Library, 1st Choice Savings Centre and the Students' Union. This shutdown will only affect the hot water system. Cold water will not be affected.

The shutdown is necessary to replace failed check valves on the heating main.

Remote sensing researchers on campus

��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge remote sensing researchers are hosting an international working group meeting of specialists in the calibration and validation of infrared and visible optical data from Earth observation satellites.

Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 11 and 12), approximately 30 researchers from as far away as Brazil and Israel will meet at the U of L.

These specialists are members of the Infrared Visible Optical Sensors (IVOS) Subgroup of the Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV) of the international Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS).

The IVOS mission is to ensure high quality calibration and validation of infrared and visible optical data from Earth observation satellites and validation of higher level products.

This is accomplished via international collaboration on the part of the world's space agencies and affiliate organizations.

This is the first time this group has met at the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge, through the efforts of Dr. Phil Teillet (Physics and Astronomy) an IVOS member and the only Canadian representative.
