Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL) – with community partners including the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge – has launched a marketing campaign designed to highlight the often little known but significant benefits that Lethbridge has to offer.

The campaign, which is intended to increase awareness as well as bust myths and misconceptions about Lethbridge, is built around 'mind blowing facts' which promote the excellent business, education and lifestyle opportunities in the city.

The U of L's first contribution focuses on the recent selection of Biological Sciences researcher, Dr. Olga Kovalchuk, as one of Canada's Top 40 under 40.

City of Lethbridge Mayor, Robert Tarleck, says, "Lethbridge truly has something special that can deliver real business and lifestyle results. An initiative like this is needed to promote the characteristics that demonstrate the value Lethbridge offers to our province and country."

The participation of partner organizations has contributed tremendous value to the implementation of this high-impact, high profile campaign.

"Our goal is to ensure that Lethbridge is recognized and respected as a vital player in the provincial and national marketplace," says EDL chief executive officer Cheryl Dick.

"Partnering with businesses and organizations in our community allows us to broaden the reach of this campaign and elevate the assets and strengths of Lethbridge throughout Alberta."

The campaign uses targeted media opportunities to reach both a business audience and a more general population and will remain in market until the end of 2010.

When you think of the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge's global reach, you might not initially think of a connection to the current war in Afghanistan.
However, that's just where some members of the U of L student and alumni community are right now, based in Kandahar, Afghanistan, literally and figuratively one of the world's hot spots.

An on-site Tim Horton's provides some measure of familiarity, as does regular e-mail and other contact with friends and family, but there is no question that for these young men and others serving in the Canadian Forces overseas, the war is more than a 30-second clip on the evening news.

In this submitted photo, Bombardier (Bdr) Keenan Geiger (l) is a current fourth-year Edmonton campus management student majoring in Human Resources. Now taking a break from school, he is on a seven-month deployment in Afghanistan as a reserve member of the Canadian Forces. His unit is part of the 20th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, based in Edmonton. Geiger is the nephew of Naomi Cramer, an administrator in the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience.

Beginning in March, the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge Communications office will be producing an e-news mailing that will be distributed to all employees once per week on Mondays.

The main purpose of the e-newsletter is to reduce the volume of e-mail messages being sent to all employees from a wide variety of departments and administrative offices and group them in a brief, weekly, easy-to-read format.

Submissions and regular contributions are encouraged from all areas. Items included in the e-newsletter can be of timely, general interest to the campus employee community, (APO, AUPE, EXEMPT, Faculty) such as information from Human Resources, Financial Services or other administrative departments; employee networking and social activities; Campus Security or Facilities information; construction or other maintenance updates; notices about upcoming speakers of interest to the campus community and sports and recreation information, among other topics.
