The ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge community extends its most sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Dr. George Sigurd Balfour, a local medical pioneer and original Friend of the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Lethbridge and Board of Governors member, who passed away recently in Lethbridge at the age of 90.

Balfour, born in Edmonton, was raised and educated there and in Grande Prairie. He began his medical training at the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ of Alberta and graduated from medical school in January 1943. A member of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, Balfour served in World War II.

He made his way to Lethbridge after completing post-graduate studies at Montreal's McGill ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ. One of the founders of the Campbell Clinic, Balfour was also instrumental in developing the intensive care units at both St. Michael's Hospital and the Municipal Regional Hospital.

Balfour was an original Friend of the U of L and served on the ��Ѹ��Դ��߿�Ƭ's Board of Governors for seven years, from 1973 to 1979.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Martin Bros. Riverview Chapels. For a full obituary, follow this link.
