External Funding Opportunities
The CPRA program is a federal research talent investment program in the Canada Research Training Awards Suite (CRTAS) administered by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The CRTAS aims to support the next generation of innovators by providing funding and high-quality research training, cultivating research skills, fostering creativity, and empowering awardees to make significant contributions to Canada鈥檚 research ecosystem, economy and prosperity.

Eligibility:
To be eligible to apply, you must:
- hold or expect to hold a doctorate or health professional degree before the ; and
- not hold or be on leave from a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. Generally, "tenure or tenure-track" refers to an open-ended academic position in which the holder can form a research group, apply for externally funded research as a principal investigator and teach.
In addition:
- you must have completed all requirements of your doctorate or health professional degree no more than three years before September 1 of the year in which you apply.
Note: This is not the conferred or convocation date indicated on your transcript, but rather the date on which all the requirements of your degree were met, including the successful defense and submission of the corrected copy of your thesis. If you have more than one doctoral degree, the completion date of your most recent relevant degree will be used to determine your eligibility.
If you are not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or protected person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada), as of the application deadline, you must be:
- currently enrolled in or have completed a doctorate or health professional degree at a Canadian institution; or
- conducting postdoctoral research at a Canadian institution.
Up to 20% of all postdoctoral awards will be available to international applicants.

Your application must be complete to be considered in the competition.
You must submit your application electronically through the relevant agency鈥檚 platform. All referees/references, institutional nominators, etc., must use the appropriate online application system to submit their supporting letters before the deadline.

Up to $60,000/year for two years
Rolling Intake
A partner organization required to provide 50% of salary.
The intern spends their time with the partner organization working directly with employees of the partner either in-person, hybrid, or remotely (depending on partner needs).
An intern spends a minimum of 4 or 6 months 鈥 or one unit鈥 on a research and development project. Each unit can have a total stipend value of $10,000 or $15,000 (please note: $20,000 units are available for Post-Doctoral Fellows). Mitacs covers the unit's value with a 50% contribution provided by the partner organization. For the $15,000 unit value, up to $5000 can be used for eligible project support expenses. Additional funding is also available for projects with significant eligible travel expenditures.
Internal Funding Opportunities
The Postdoctoral Fellow Recruitment program is an internal source of funds administered by the Office of Research and Innovation Services (ORIS) directed towards supporting the recruitment of postdoctoral fellows to the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge. Faculty members seeking to recruit a new postdoctoral fellow to the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge are eligible to apply.

- Candidates who completed their PhD or other degrees at the UofL are eligible to apply

- The supervisor must be able to provide 50% of the salary over two years.

The Alberta Innovates Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (the 鈥淧rogram鈥) enhances the ability of Alberta-based post-secondary institutions to recruit and develop health research and innovation talent in areas of strategic priority to the province. Through the Program, the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge acquired funding from Alberta Innovates to be used for Fellowship awards/stipends. The 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge is working collaboratively with Alberta Innovates to promote Fellowship opportunities and run institution-level Fellowship competitions.

Fellowship Types
ORIS is accepting applications for the following fellowships:
- Recruitment Fellowships (RF)
- $70,000 CAD per year for up to two years for the highest caliber incoming postdoctoral fellows. For this competition, 鈥渋ncoming鈥 means you must not have started a postdoctoral fellowship at the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge more than six months before the Alberta Innovates fellowship funding begins.
- $15,000 Top-Up: For trainees in receipt of any other major comparable award (i.e., Killam, Notley, Tri-Council fellowships, etc.). The Top-Up may be increased as necessary to ensure the combined value of the awards does not fall below $70,000 CAD per year.
- Postdoctoral Fellowships in Health Innovation (PFHI):
- $55,000 CAD per year for up to two years. Funding cannot be provided beyond a trainee鈥檚 fifth year in a postdoctoral appointment at the same institution.
- Top-Up: $15,000: For trainees in receipt of any other major comparable award (i.e., Killam, Notley, Tri-Council fellowships, etc.). The Top-Up may be increased as necessary to ensure the combined value of the awards does not fall below $55,000 CAD per year.
- Alberta Innovates Enhancement Fellowships (EF):
- $55,000 CAD per year for up to one year for promising postdoctoral fellows/applications ranked just below the funding cut off in PFHI or other major postdoctoral salary award competitions. Funding cannot be provided beyond a Trainee鈥檚 fifth year in a postdoctoral appointment at the same institution.
- If a Trainee is offered another major award while holding an EF fellowship, they are encouraged to accept the other award even if it is of lower value. A supplement will be provided to ensure the combined value does not fall below $55,000 per year for the duration of the Alberta Innovates award.
- Top-Up Considerations: Trainees in receipt of any other major comparable award (Tri-Council fellowships, etc.) are not eligible to receive the full value of the AI Fellowship at the same time. Instead, they may be eligible to receive a Top-Up from Alberta Innovates if they accept the other major award. Restrictions vary based on the type of Alberta Innovates Fellowship offered.
Eligibility
There are no citizenship restrictions on this award.
All trainees must:
- Have completed a PhD or equivalent research-related degree at the time of award implementation;
- Appointments must be in accordance with the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge Postdoctoral Association Collective agreement;
- Extensions of appointments beyond five (5) years may occur in consideration of parental leave, medical leave, and caretaker leave. In other extenuating circumstances, written justification from the Postdoctoral Fellow Employee and Faculty Supervisor is required and is subject to the approval of the Faculty Dean or their delegate.
- These extensions may be limited if the award funding period ends. You must reach out to ORIS to discuss the deadline.
- Have applied no more than once before for a Fellowship from Alberta Innovates; and
- Meet the additional eligibility criteria for the type of Fellowship award sought (as outlined below):
- Alberta Innovates Recruitment Fellowship: Be an incoming postdoctoral appointee at the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge. For this competition, "incoming" means appointee must not have started a postdoctoral fellowship at the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge more than six months before the Alberta Innovates fellowship funding begins.
- Alberta Innovates Postdoctoral Fellowships in Health Innovation or Alberta Innovates Enhancement Fellowship: Have accepted or started a postdoctoral appointment at the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge.
The proposed projects must:
- Involve health-related R&I activities that are strongly aligned to at least one of the four priority areas;
- Be conducted at the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge; and
- Be approved for funding by Alberta Innovates.
PDF Research Support Funding
Apply and receive $1000 to support a dissemination activity. This could be a publication, conference travel, workshop attendance, etc.
See this page for more information. Awards are given out on a first apply, first awarded basis. The award opens April 1, and continues until the budget is exhausted.
PDFs may be eligible to apply for the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge Research Fund (ULRF), with the the support of their supervisor and pending approval by the Dean in consultation with the Department Chair where Departments exist. Applicants may only be named on one ULRF application per competition. This award is valued at up to $15,000 for 2 years. Other 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge members may be eligible to apply,
