Success!
With a total of 46 attendees (not counting the keynote or poster session), our inaugural symposium was a great success! Attendance included 8 community members, 8 panelists, 5 U of L faculty and staff, 13 students, a M茅tis Elder, and 2 organizers.
The event consisted of a keynote lecture by Kirsten Lindquist (U of A, Native Studies), followed by a lunch, and three panel discussions by 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge scholars and invited guests (Dr. Peter Dawson, U of C, Dr. Chelsey Hauge, Brock 免费福利资源在线看片/Stanford 免费福利资源在线看片, and Daniela Navia, MA). Additional local panelists included M茅tis Elder Roderick McLeod, I-CYS Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Erin Spring, and Dr. Jeffrey MacCormack, Dr. Michelle Hogue, and Dr. Jan Newberry, acting co-director of I-CYS. During the panels, the audience had the opportunity to respond to the papers and reflect on the intersections of these issues. It concluded with a Student Poster Session during which invited guests and I-CYS members determined best poster awards for both undergraduate and graduate categories. Attendees learned from other scholars, heard from community members, activists and practitioners, and are ultimately hopeful to transform the way research is conceptualized in these areas.
Special thanks goes out to our panelists listed above (please view the main symposium page for their bios); our donors and sponsors listed here; and our volunteers and organizing committee members: Kaitlynn Weaver, Ashley Henrickson, Jenny Oseen, Erin Spring, Cecilia Reid, Zainab Al-Rikabi, and Jan Tuescher.
