In the Community

One of the COHT's main goals has been to connect university and Southern Alberta community oral historians. Our partnerships, such as with the Galt Museum & Archives, are a key part of our commitment to community outreach and participation. Please check out the information on our partnerships and our research in the community.

Oral history is a unique way to chronicle history. Listening to someone鈥檚 life story, regardless of the individual, is fascinating and beautiful. Every event in history is shaped by the individual鈥檚 experiences and memories. The COHT captures the diverse narratives of individuals from Southern Alberta. Anyone who wishes to participate in oral history, or is involved in sharing local history, will benefit from the COHT.

(Shannon Ingram, BA Honours)

COHT has affected my career. The skills I highlighted in the resume were skills I gained while working for the COHT. In other words I got the job because I had worked for the COHT. Some of the things I did with Karissa Patton can be seen and read online and I remember the editing we had to do with the web designer because the wrong picture was connected to the text. The job was not done when it was sent off to the web team; we had to follow up until we were happy with the results.

(Ann Aasfrid Holden, MA History)

Working with the COHT has been a fantastic experience! Everyone involved has been wonderfully approachable and supportive in helping us achieve success with our oral history project. Jenna, Jim and Mike especially have shared their time, expertise and so much more. Their dedicaiton and genuine desire to preserve history is inspiring. I couldn't ask for more encouragement or better mentors!

The COHT is providing an amazing resource to southern Alberta, and is having direct impact on the respect and care given to the art of recording oral histories. The work of the COHT will have lasting impact as it gives credence and strength to the stories, knowlege and memories of those who would otherwise remain voiceless. Thank you COHT for all you do.

(Kimberly Lyall, Project Coordinator, Coyote Flats Oral History Project)
