Legislated Response to Bill 29 (Fairness and Safety in Sport Act) Policy
As many of you are aware, provincial legislation required all public post-secondary institutions to adopt a 鈥淔airness in Sport Policy鈥 by September 1, 2025. On August 28, 2025, the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge Board of Governors approved the Interim Fairness in Sport Policy, which expired October 10, 2025. That temporary approval allowed time for our community to provide input through our regular policy review and approval process.
The Board of Governors met on October 10, 2025, and that feedback was carefully considered by the Board, alongside legislative and fiduciary obligations. The Board passed (not unanimously) the updated policy, now titled Legislated Response to Bill 29 (Fairness and Safety in Sport Act) Policy. Additionally, the Board unanimously passed a motion stating that the Board of Governors recognizes the impact that this legislated policy will have on the 免费福利资源在线看片 Community, and the Board directs administration to inform them, at the next Board meeting, of steps taken, and that will be taken, to mitigate harms. As previously indicated by the Board, all feedback submitted by the 免费福利资源在线看片 community will be shared with the Minister of Advanced Education, the Minister of Tourism and Sport, and the Premier. Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback on this policy.
As previously communicated, senior administration acknowledges the harm and distress this government-mandated policy has caused among many students, staff, faculty and supporters, but especially for trans and 2SLGBTQ+ community members. I have heard strongly from you that this is not solely about sport participation, but that policies of this nature create a broader environment where people are scrutinized, targeted, or made to feel or be unsafe by emboldening other discriminatory behaviours. Let me be clear: such behaviours have no place here. I am committed to doing everything within my power to prevent, address and respond to such behaviour.
The 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge remains firmly committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and affirming environment for all and in the coming weeks and months I will communicate some material actions in support of that commitment. I acknowledge and understand that for many of you, my words in this moment will ring hollow given the implementation of this policy. I fully acknowledge that the required policy challenges our ability to live out our commitments as fully as we aspire to, but we are resolved and will continue to advocate for trans and 2SLGBTQ+ community members. Your voices will remain central to this process and will continue to guide how we move forward together.
Sincerely,
Digvir Jayas
President & Vice-Chancellor
