Welcome to MUSI 3655: Music Production. In this course, students will organize into production groups based on genres of interest and spend the term re-interpreting a non-electronic pop song in a new genre, with a special emphasis on making music with synthesizers, samplers, and computers.
Workshops and assignments will introduce students to the variety of responsibilities that fall under 'music producer' (incl. arranger, orchestrator, sound designer, mixing engineer), and how these roles interact in collaborative studio settings.
Through these exercises, we will develop critical listening skills that help us translate rhythm, harmony, and melody into new contexts. Students will be challenged to develop rigorous creative decision-making skills that help them reliably achieve their creative goals.
