Cockwambles, Cornucopias and the Curious Task of Economics Ìý

FinancialÌýpressures.ÌýEnvironmentalÌýconcerns.ÌýTechnologicalÌýchange.ÌýShifting consumer preferences. Infrastructure limitations. Government interventionism. These factors, and more, contributeÌýtoÌýtheÌýÌý
complexity and challenges owned by farmers,ÌýranchersÌýand others in the agri-food industry in Canada. Agri-entrepreneurs and producersÌýoperateÌýat an intersection of scarcity, uncertainty, natural resourceÌýstewardshipÌýand business efficiency — a balance that seems increasingly difficult toÌýmaintain, or even to achieve. Economic science enables us to better grasp the source, theÌýnatureÌýand the consequences of these issues. It helps guide decision making and informs what the implications of those choices are, both intended and unintended. Economics is not about money, being able to predict the future, or what the level of something should be. It is about people; it is who we are andÌýtheÌýomnipresent trade-offs we each face. Join Dr.ÌýDannyÌýLe RoyÌýas he highlights his application of economic principles in viewÌýofÌýbetter understanding and resolving problems in Canadian agriculture and agri-food.Ìý
