Pianist Jani Parsons presents a short recital featuring works that explore widely varied emotional landscapes. Mozart's charming and humorous "Twinkle Variations" are juxtaposed with selections from Robert Schumann's Fantasiest眉cke Op. 12 and a new set of Fantasy Pieces by Canadian composer Eugene Astapov that reflect on loss and grief.
Praised for her 鈥渃ombination of tenderness and vivacious energy鈥, Canadian pianist and chamber musician Jani Parsons is a founding member of Latitude 49, co-director of Sound Atlas Festival and co-author of 鈥淭echnique Through Repertoire鈥 published through Piano Education Press. She is associate professor and head of the piano program at the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Calgary. Jani holds a Doctoral degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Michigan, studying with Dr. Arthur Greene and Dr. John Ellis. As an advocate of living composers鈥 work, Jani has premiered nearly one hundred new solo and chamber works and has appeared in 10 professionally released records. Past performances include appearances at the Chan Centre for the Arts, the Banff Centre for the Arts, Detroit Symphony Center, and the Ravinia Festival. Her infectious energy for educating young musicians has led to positions at Baylor 免费福利资源在线看片 and residencies at Princeton 免费福利资源在线看片, the New England Conservatory, Indiana 免费福利资源在线看片, and Northwestern 免费福利资源在线看片 among others.
Fantasy Pieces by Eugene Astapov was commissioned by Jani Parsons with the financial support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council.
