About Catherine Ross
I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, running wild in the North Saskatchewan River Valley and the neighbouring farm fields, municipal dumps, and gravel pits of Beverly Heights. I received a Diploma from Grant MacEwan Community College in 1983 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from NSCAD in 1985, followed by a year-long residency at the Banff Centre. In 1989, I accepted a position at the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge, where I worked as the Facilities Manager, Art Studios, until 2016. I continue to live and work in Lethbridge, maintaining strong ties to the university and art communities. After 30-plus years, I continue to make art because I can鈥檛 stop exclaiming to myself or friends, 鈥淐an you imagine 鈥︹
This imagining has led me to the conceptualization and completion of numerous installations, sculptures, and public artworks. Notably,聽Stella Mere听补苍诲听Stella Ripa聽have received certification as Canadian Cultural Properties through applications submitted by the Glenbow Museum and the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge Art Gallery. These were both pivotal pieces in my career.聽Stella Mere聽was my first landscape-inspired installation, and聽Stella Ripa聽was my first public commission. In 2010, Denton Fredrickson and I won the national competition for the Southern Alberta Art Gallery Public Art Project, with our submission聽Aeolian Aviary, 2010-11. In 2019, I was commissioned to produce聽Migratory Paths, a suspended sculpture for the Edmonton Convention Centre in Edmonton.
Currently, I am preparing the installation聽Flowers聽for exhibition at the Gallery at Casa, Lethbridge, AB, opening November 8, and I am continuing production of聽A Portrait of the Eastern Slopes. Both projects have received generous funding from The Canada Council and The Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
