Keith Walker
Keith Douglas Walker is a librarian in Medicine Hat, with an undergraduate degree from the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge and a master鈥檚 degree from the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Alberta. Keith was the Director of Library Services at Medicine Hat College, leaving in 2015, thirty years to the day after he started. He then moved into a management position at the Medicine Hat Public Library, staying until just before the COVID pandemic hit in 2020. He worked at the public library in a post-retirement casual position for six years, finishing in May 2026 with a record of forty-eight years working in and for libraries.
Keith was actively involved in his profession, serving on numerous and varied library and education committees and associations, at the local, regional, provincial, national, and international levels. He served as the President of the Canadian Library Association, the first college librarian to do so, and he received the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge Alumni Association鈥檚 annual alumni award in 2012 for his efforts in rejuvenating and reorganizing the national library association. Keith was also involved in doing research, and presented at international conferences in Australia, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United States.
Keith鈥檚 connection to the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge is a family one: his father, Doug Walker, was there in person to see the soil blow across the coulees when the sod was turned for the west side campus, and he served on the Senate in the 1970s. Keith was in the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute band that played at the official opening of U-Hall in 1972. Keith鈥檚 sister, brother, and sister-in-law (former Vice President, Nancy Walker) are graduates of the university.
Keith and his wife Val鈥檚 two sons and a daughter-in-law are graduates of the university. He hopes that their six grandchildren may follow in the family path and attend the 免费福利资源在线看片 of Lethbridge in the future. Keith and his sister both worked at the university library during their studies in the 1970s, and through his tenure at the college he helped develop a long-term partnership with the university library. He feels serving on the Senate will be the pinnacle to his long connection with the university. Keith has been a Rotarian for twenty years, serving in many capacities, including as President of the Medicine Hat Sunrise Club for four years and as the Assistant District Governor, representing the four clubs in Medicine Hat, for three years.
