About
Katie Marie Bruce graduated from the the Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge in 2011 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts (Distinction) and achieved a Masters of Fine Arts (Print Media) from York Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ in 2015, where her thesis project was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Her work explores the affective/affected body, and the intersection of emotional and non-performative labour. She has exhibited across North America and in the UK.
At the root of her practice is the examination of empathy as a connective tissue — articulated materially in large scale embroidered works, etchings and other print-media, as well as lost wax bronze sculptures. Her current body of research-creation looks to combine feminist readings of Object Orientated Ontology, with images of the female nude that challenge notions of the muse as a consumable object of desire.
