Contractor Safety

Contractor Safety

The Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge CONTRACTOR SAFETY STANDARD defines responsibilities and procedures that must be followed when contractors, suppliers and service providers are hired to conduct work for the Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬.

All contractors are required to meet or exceed the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulation and Code, and conduct their activities in accordance with the applicable Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬'s policies and procedures.

For work involving a U of L building or facility system:

  • Requires notification and approval by the Facilities department. This includes any installation of new equipment, renovation or alteration of existing facilities/ equipment, or interface with building systems, etc.
  • Contact Facilities PRIOR to hiring a contractor or service provider.

For work involving contractors or service providers (e.g. equipment repair personnel):

  • Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ employees that hire contractors and service providers are responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and applicable Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ procedures. Contractor pre-qualification may also be required.
  • Contact Safety Services for advice and assistance PRIOR to hiring a contractor or service provider.

Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ policies, occupational health & safety regulatory requirements and Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ insurance requirements apply. This includes the following:

  • U of L Environment, Health & Safety Policy
  • U of L Procurement of Goods and Services Policy
  • U of L Financial Approval Authority Policy

The Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge uses safety prequalification as a method to develop and maintain a list of preferred Contractors who meet the minimum safety standards to be considered for completing work at the Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬. Contractor Safety Pre-qualification forms are provided below.

COR/SECOR Certified Contractors:

  • The validity period for preferred contractor prequalification is three (3) years.
  • The first year, a Full HSE Prequalification Application is required.
  • An Interim Review Application will be required in the second and third year.

Contractors who are not COR/SECOR Certified:

  • A Full HSE Prequalification Application is required annually.

The Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ of Lethbridge, may, at any time during the prequalification period, re-evaluate or request further information from the prime contractor, to maintain ‘prequalified’ status.

  • Following the three (3) year period, prequalified prime contractors will be required to submit a Full HSE Prequalification Application.
  • Upon approval of safety prequalification by Campus Safety, additional information may be required by specific Ãâ·Ñ¸£Àû×ÊÔ´ÔÚÏß¿´Æ¬ Departments to verify contractor’s capacity, skill and experience in other areas (e.g. commercial, environmental, and technical).
  • It is the contractor’s responsibility to contact the specific Department to ensure any other required information is completed.
